It looks like we can finally start to travel a little bit! 2020 was such a whirlwind that left most of us cancelling trips and plans. Now that things are starting to open up again, it’s time to dust off those carryons and get to packing!
Below are some of my favorite layover essentials for the 2021 traveler. It is by no means an extensive list, but it’ll get you well on your way!
Shop the Post
Masks are still a very big part of our lives right now, and wireless headphones have been a game changer. I use the older generation of airpods, but there’s really no wrong option when it comes to headphones. Being able to go wireless means you can keep your mask on at all times in the airport without struggling to get the strings of your headphones through the loops or the mask. Less mess!
Most people that I know have been planning mini weekend trips to test the waters and see how they feel about COVID. If it’s 3 days or less, you can definitely get by with just a carryon. I like to use this hardcase luggage set because there’s an option for every trip on my calendar. Plus, they nest into each other, making storage a breeze.
This case also comes in a handful of really gorgeous colors! Pro Tip: I’ve noticed these 3-piece luggage sets go on sale a lot. DON’T pay full price, just bookmark a few listings and see when they go on sale. I think I paid closet to $100 for mine instead of $400.
Keep your eyes peeled! This one is 75% off right now even though its sister set that I share is $400.
Your Favorite Read
I’ll admit I’m not much of a reader, but I’m getting better! I’ve recently started reading a few quasi-historical books, but that’s not my idea of a vacation read. For a fun beach read or something that’s a guilty pleasure, I like to read books by Elin Hilderbrand. Her books often center arounds friends or sisters and they are set in quaint beach towns with beautiful imagery and simple pleasures. Use your layover time to get lost in a good book instead of stressing out about emails or work calls. Remember, you’re ‘out of office’ for a reason. Crack open that book!
Moisturizer with SPF
Did you know you could get serious sun while on the airplane? You are much closer to the sun than normal and you should absolutely be wearing SPF. Along with being much closer to UVA/UVB rays, your skin loses a lot of moisture when flying. I recommend using more moisturizer and drinking more water than normal. Sure, you may have to use the bathroom while in flight, but it’s worth it to land refreshed and hydrated at your next destination! You may already have a favorite moisturizer, but I wrote a post about my favorite Elemis products and this made the top of the list! Don’t forget to reapply and rehydrate during your layover.
I have and love both of these moisturizers with SPF 30.
I hope this list helps! Here’s to more adventures in 2021.
