January Empties

Happy New Year to all my favorite Skincare Junkies! I was blown away by how many people liked the Beauty and Skincare #Empties last year, that I thought we’d continue for year two! If you’re new to the series, here’s a bit of background: I started using up leftover products during the pandemic, as a way to be more frugal and less wasteful. After a year of cataloguing my products, I can honestly say I buy SO many fewer products and try to stick to my favorites over and over again.

Read below to see whether these January Empties were good ’til the last drop or were an absolute flop!

Colleen Rothschild Face Oil N°9

I wanted to start this year off with a BANG and it just so happens that we have our very first ever 10/10 review! I love this oil so much and I would recommend it to practically anyone. Even my sister, who has incredibly oily skin, loves the Face Oil N°9. She doesn’t even use moisturizer, but she’ll use this oil at night! Okay, enough gushing.

The face oil is incredibly non-greasy, and absorbs extremely well into the skin. I use to layer it under my moisturizers and night creams, but the instructions say to layer it over, so I have started doing that instead. If I am wanting some “lighter” moisture, I’ll use this oil without any products. It’s great alone or with other hydrating skincare products.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Oil Mist – 6.7 fl oz

This oil is one of those impulse buys that you grab when your skin is so dry that you’re willing to risk $7 to see of something works. I liked the body oil for the most part, but I only ever used it in the shower and would pat my skin dry with a towel when I got out. I haven’t tried it on dry skin because I would worry that it would essentially rub all over my clothes and not absorb into my skin. I think if you have dry skin and like body oils, it’s worth the risk. If you’re not into oils and barely use a body wash in the shower, I would maybe skip it.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 – Mint

Kiehl’s is known for consistent products that you can count on to be hydrating and feel a bit more luxurious than a drugstore product. I’ve liked their cult favorite original lip balm for year, but especially love their balm in mint! It’s harder to find outside of the Kiehl’s website, but it’s definitely worth the $10 and the tube lasts a very long time. It’s also on sale for a limited time!

Tan-Luxe The Face Illuminating Self-Tan Drops

Tan-Luxe was one of the first “luxury” self-tanning products I tried. I remember how I thought it was so expensive at the time, and tried to use it sparingly! I’ve tried a dozen other more affordable brands since then, but most don’t compare. After spending much more on finding a cheap alternative, I can safely say that Tan-Luxe should be one of your self-tanning go-to’s! These drops are specifically designed for your face, and should be mixed in with the moisturizer of your choice. The bottles comes in two shades: Light to Medium and Medium to Dark. If you’re not sure which shade is right for you, pop into a Sephora and ask the specialist to perform a “swatch test” on your hand or neck. I use both shades and would recommend either! Be sure to mix the drops into the moisturizer very well before applying! Start off with 1-2 drops at first and gradually build up to your desired color.
