A few people have been asking me recently where I have been gaining inspiration for my posts, so I thought I would show you guys! It’s impossible to explain how I get all my inspo. for every post, so I’m going to break down my most recent post as an example. Being a Millennial, I am on my phone, computer and tablet 24/7. I don’t know if that’s a good thing to admit, but it’s true.
For this post, I pulled from four separate images.
Numbuh 1: My Blog Logo
I’m sure you guys are sick of seeing this photo over and over again, but I handpicked these colors over a YEAR before this site even became a reality! That means that I have mulled over (and over, and over) these colors for a long time and STILL haven’t gotten bored of them. That’s saying something.
Numbuh 2: Milk Studios New York
Zanna Rassi, a style queen in her own right, makes denim look effortless and chic. Since I am on a denim kick, I often look to her to see how she uses the fabric in unique ways. I have been living in these H&M boyfriend jeans for a few weeks now, and I am slowly starting to wear denim sets and looking for ways to pair denim with chambray and other similar fabric.
This nail color has been a staple for me even when I’m wearing dark colors. The blue color works well with bright pops of color, or more “dreary” and “sleepy” colors as I like to call them. What I love most about this hue of blue is how versatile it is, and how it isn’t so distracting that it takes away from whatever outfit you’re wearing. I also really love how smoothly Ulta nail lacquer can be applied to my nails. Even though I don’t have the most steady hands, I can still apply the polish without people thinking my little niece helped me.
Numbuh 4: TargetStyle
Do I really have to defend this collage? It’s awesome! Zanna Roberts Rassi has been re-engineering the denim line for Target, and they have been in MAJOR brainstorm-mode. I love how they show where they get their inspiration from, and they’ve done an excellent job with promotions thus far.
Okay, now that you’ve seen how I acquire some of my ideas, here are a few final thoughts for when you have writers block of the style kind.
Step 1: Read EVERYTHING (within reason).
It’s important to keep up with current blog/fashion/beauty/travel trends and stay up to date on changes. I’m not always the first person to know when something is trending but I’ll definitely do my research before I hop on the blogpost bandwagon. I know it’s daunting to have so many social media platforms, but it really does help me when I’m on the go. I read articles on Bloglovin’ when I’m in transit and Pin useful articles or tips that I will then go back and read later. Also, it helps to follow those with similar interests. That way they can share new finds without you having to sift through information that you might not need at the moment.
Step 2: Figure out what the common factors are.
I take screenshots of things that I like when I’m on the go and I look back at them when I have some down time. What do all of these photos have in common? The color palette! I see that I have lots of blue imagery, and I am clearly a sucker for some really soft denim.
Step 3: Mesh it all together to show what sticks out to you.
Okay, so you like the color blue. What do you about it? What seems to be trending? Maybe it’s going to be an accent color, or maybe you try some new trend that you didn’t think you could ever pull off. Either way, go with your gut. You see it, you like it, so go out and create with it!
Phew! That was a lot of writing. I hope you guys can better see how I gather some of my inspiration and let me know if you need some creative links to get you started! I’ve got lists of lists of lists that I’d be happy to share with my dimes. 😉
