Smile Brilliant

There are some things in life that I can’t live without. White teeth is at the top of the list. I was lucky enough to have minimal teeth issues growing up, but I love coffee and the stains on my enamel are not forgiving. When it comes to dingy teeth, I try to be careful with what whitening treatments I use. I have sensitive teeth and it’s not easy to have one without the other. I thought I’d try Smile Brilliant trays so you guys can see for yourself the results.

Okay, here’s how it works.

You are sent molds and paste that you form together to make the shape your teeth. (I’d recommend watching this video before you prep the paste for the molds. This gal really saved me from having to use the third set of paste.) The mold dries quickly so you have to hurry! Then, you send the molds back to SB and they make trays to your exact teeth. This part was the most impressive to me. I really thought they weren’t going to fit, but they did! I never had a retainer growing up, so it was a funny feeling at first. Once you have your trays back, you can start your treatments.

This is where it gets tricky. I’m sure the treatments are different for every person, but I struggled, especially in the beginning.

As I mentioned, the trays fit great. I thought the packaging was nice and the instructions were very clear. That’s important with something so delicate as teeth whitening. It was also nice that the syringes were simple to use and take with me on the road. It’s obviously a little messy if you spill it in your makeup bag, but I was careful to keep it separate from my other beauty products.

The gel caused major sensitivity in my teeth. It also caused little white squares on my teeth that faded after a week or two, but it really freaked me out at first! I paused the treatments until talking to someone at SB who said it was perfectly normal. They walked me through the process and gave me more literature to read which explained the reason for the white spots on my teeth (decalcification), but it was tough to come back from that. The white spots eventually subsided, and I started whitening again. Sure enough, the spots reappeared, but I knew what to expect this time.

I want to be clear that the gel did whiten my teeth, but not in the way I expected. The process took about 8 weeks and I finished a few weeks ago. I haven’t noticed much change in my teeth, but that might be because I didn’t have very yellow teeth to begin with? I’m sure each person has a slightly different reaction. I believe for me, this would be the type of treatment I’d have to do continuously, and that would cause too much teeth sensitivity for me.

Things to keep in mind

This treatment takes time. If you’re wanting to have white teeth for a party the same night, you won’t get the results you’re looking for. It takes time to follow the regimen, use the syringes and keep up with the gel that helps with sensitivity. The box also recommends using ¼ to 1/3 of the gel per treatment. This wasn’t enough coat my teeth, so I had to use 1/3 to ½ of the gel, meaning I got fewer treatments out of the process. The clear trays help make it possible to see what’s going on though, and I’d still suggest using the recommended amount at first and then go from there.

Overall I’d give the experience a 7/10. I think the trays worked and took medium effort. My advice would be to read about the product and hear what other users say. It’s not surprising that a product might work well on some, and not on others, but it’s always best to do a little research before jumping in.
